Lafarge Lake feels like a natural centrepiece of Town Centre Park, but its story begins with gravel. The parkland was once associated with Lafarge’s quarry operations. An arrangement among the company, the Province and the City eventually brought the land and man-made lake into public use.

Today a walk by the water reveals how the city has changed. The park brings together a lake, gathering spaces, sports facilities and paths within a growing urban centre. The community plaza on the eastern shore opened in 2016 as part of Coquitlam’s 125th anniversary legacy.

Try visiting at a relaxed pace and imagining the site in its working years. Then look at the people using it now: walkers, families and neighbours meeting by the shore. Check the City’s current park information before you go. Lafarge Lake is a reminder that a place can have several lives.
